Only ½ hour drive away is Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand's smallest National Park. It protects 23,000 hectares of the most natural stretch of easily accessible coastline in New Zealand. The world famous Coast Track opens up the park's intimate estuaries, golden sand beaches and forested headlands. Day launch cruise trips, and other activities abound.
New Zealand's newest National Park - Kahurangi National Park is the classic national park: huge, wild and rich in the plants and animals that make New Zealand unique. Formed in early 1996, its 452,000 hectares include most remaining natural lands in the north-western South Island.
Nelson Lakes National Park protects 102,000 hectares of the northernmost Southern Alps. The park offers a quiet experience of tranquil beech forests, craggy mountains, clear streams, fields of tussock and lakes both big and small. From Mapua Leisure Park, the Nelson Lakes area is only a 1 ½ hour drive where you can experience true alpine wilderness and nature. Activities include snow skiing at Rainbow or Mt Robert skifields, outstanding brown trout lake/river fishing, and short one hour to longer multi day hikking.
We are very close to many other natural resorces in the Nelson region. Over 300 full time artists make a living in the area, vineyards and wineries, golf courses a plenty, and for the young or young at heart, with many activities that are nearby including:
Tasman National Park Enterprises
Original Farewell Spit Safari
Rabbit Island FERRY
are also four golf courses within a 30 min drive from the Park.
